Wonders of Nature was composed as a soundtrack for a nature film and even without the images, the work will appeal to the performers as well as the audience. It appeals to the listener’s own fantasy and imagination, as one can attempt to visualise the imagery whilst listening to the music.

In October 1813, when Napoleon was beaten after his unsuccessful Russian campaign, the French withdrew from the Netherlands. At the beginning of 1814, the whole country had been liberated except for the town of Delfzijl, still occupied by French troops. This programmatic work is about political and military stubbornness, chasing dreams, and about love always following its own unequalled way. Being one of the most acknowledged composers of today, Dirk Brossé has created an epic work that depicts a dramatic story, using the full range of the symphonic band resulting in challenging brass passages, a wide range of percussion and a lot of strong, beautiful and melodic material. Hal Leonard Music for Brass Band Grade 4 https://www.bandmusicshop.com/product/hl44012850/a-hymn-to-new-england.aspx HL44012850 Written in 1987 as the accompaniment to New England Time Capsule, an Omnimax travelogue, and recently recorded by the Boston Pops, this three minute concert work adapts wonderfully for band. With true Williams craftmanship, it features brassy fanfares and a rich, sonorous hymn, all based on the same melodic intervals. John Williams’ brilliant orchestration is successfully captured, making this a superb concert opener for brass bands.

Beriato Music Publishing Concert Works Grade 6 https://www.bandmusicshop.com/product/bmp17013663/a-brussels-requiem.aspx BMP17013663 The attacks in Brussels on 22 March 2016 created a shockwave throughout Belgium and the rest of the world. Equally, the attacks in Paris and Nice led to great public indignation, fear and disbelief. What has happened to the western world? Have our cultures grown apart to such an extent that we do not understand each other anymore? Bert Appermont’s intention was to voice certain emotions that these acts of terror have caused: particularly fear, grief, anger, and helplessness. He uses the French children’s song Au Claire de la Lune as a connecting thread throughout the work. This piece is also about hope and faith in another world, and is meant to pay homage to all victims, resulting in a dignified remembrance. The musical development is presented in four through-composed parts, titled Innocence, In Cold Blood, In Memoriam – We Shall Rise Again and A New Day. This work was commissioned by the Brassband Oberösterreich (Brass Band Upper Austria) to be played at the European Brass Band Championships 2017.

De Haske Publications Concert and Contest Collection Grade 6 https://www.bandmusicshop.com/product/dhp%201175838-030/destination-moon.aspx DHP 1175838-030 Destination Moon was first performed by Cory Band at the 2017 European Championships in Ostend, Belgium, and is inspired by the Belgian comic-book hero Tintin. The first part is called ‘Science’ and describes the development of the theory of space travel. The second part is ‘Humanity’ which addresses human concerns and philosophies about our place in the universe. The third part is ‘The Launch’ which ends with a repetition of the words ‘Earth to Moon Rocket – are you receiving me?’ as the rocket vanishes into a tiny speck in the sky.

Mitropa Concertwork Series Grade 3,5 – Duration: 07:10 https://www.bandmusicshop.com/product/2157-19-010%20m/wings-to-fly.aspx This piece was composed for the youth wind band at the Marienschule in Saarbrücken, Germany. The title praises the importance of an education emphasizing freedom, responsibility and getting to know and accepting one’s limitations in order to become a well-educated and good-hearted citizen. During the piece, the composer refers to aspects of a typical school-age experience, such as friendship, disappointments, challenges, values and goals. The point is that education gives us all ‘Wings to fly’. This is a noble piece, full of variety, with nice sections for all instrumental groups. 2157-19-010 M

De Haske Concert and Contest Collection Grade 4 – Duration: 12:00 https://www.bandmusicshop.com/product/dhp%201195884-010/tribute-to-a-maestro.aspx Tribute to a Maestro is an homage to Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683–1764), one of the most important French Baroque composers. Rameau was a hugely significant composer, organist, harpsichordist and music teacher: he also published several authoritative books on music theory. Jan de Haan based this tribute on a theme from ‘Les Sauvages’ (The Savages), the fourth act of Rameau’s ballet-opera, Les Indes Galantes (The Amorous Indies). The work begins with two variations, whereupon the striking theme can be heard. After a short intermezzo, four more variations follow, of which the last one is composed in Baroque style. De Haske Concert and Contest Collection – Grade 4,5 – Duration: 09:00 https://www.bandmusicshop.com/product/dhp%201186066-010/stepstones.aspx Stepstones was commissioned by the Harmonie Victoria Téiteng from Tétange (Luxembourg) for its 125th anniversary. The composer references the music of Rossini, who died 25 years before the commissioning band was founded. The second element this work refers to the legendary conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein who was born at the time the band celebrated its 25th anniversary. This spectacular overture has a strong historical and musical story and is ideal to open your concert in style and grandeur! DHP 1186066-010
